[ Mary Beadell-DiBartolo ]
Mary
Beadell-DiBartolo joined the faculty of Northern Arizona University in
1993 where she teaches cello and chamber music, and is coordinator of
chamber and event music for the School of Music. Mary Beadell-DiBartolo
is principal of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, and assistant
principal of the Arizona Opera Orchestra. Prior to this, she was an
inaugural member of the New World Symphony, (Michael Tilson Thomas,
artistic director), and a member of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra, the
Cincinnati Ballet and Chamber Orchestras, the Dayton and Fort Wayne
Philharmonics, and the West Virginia and Lincoln (NE) Symphonies. In
addition, Beadell-DiBartolo has an affiliation of almost thirty years
with numerous regional/union orchestras as both a contract and
per-service member.
Dr. Beadell-DiBartolo’s summer festivals include the Spoleto
Italy/USA Opera, the Grand Teton, Mainly Mozart, Lancaster USA
Festivals, and the Arizona Opera production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle. Dr.
Beadell-DiBartolo is an avid continuo player, having performed with many
choral organizations including the Phoenix Bach Choir, the Vocal Arts
Ensemble of Cincinnati, the St. James Church Concert Series of Seattle,
and the Abendmusik Series – First Plymouth Congregational Church –
Lincoln, NE. As a freelance musician, Beadell-DiBartolo can be heard on
the CD Dances with the Muse with New Age artist Chris Spheris. She also
appears on the PBS/John Tesh video One World (featuring a segment on
Monument Valley) which aired on National Public Television in March,
1999.
Dr. Beadell-DiBartolo is an active clinician and adjudicator.
She has presented at the Arizona Music Educators Conference, and
given lecture recitals at Northern Arizona University and the University
of Arizona. Dr. Beadell-DiBartolo has appeared as a guest clinician and
recruiter at numerous schools throughout the region. She has regularly
served as a regional, solo, ensemble, and all-state judge, and is on the
faculty of the Northern Arizona University Summer Music Camp where she
teaches cello and chamber music, and leads masterclasses and orchestra
sectionals. Dr. Beadell-DiBartolo performed and taught at the Schlern
International Music Festival in the summer of 2007. This summer she,
along with her husband Joel DiBartolo, will join the faculty of the
InterHarmony International Summer Music Festival in The Berkshires and
Germany (interharmony.com).
Mary Beadell-DiBartolo was a student of Peter Wiley (Guarneri
Quartet/student of David Soyer), Zara Nelsova (concert cellist), John
Sharp (principal cellist, Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Dudley Powers
(former principal cellist, Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Arkady Orlovsky
(student of Mstislav Rostropovich/principal cellist Indianapolis
Symphony), Charles Wendt (student of Luigi Silva), Nancy Green, (concert
cellist), and Carol Work. She studied orchestral excerpts with members
of the Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Metropolitan Orchestras, and
has coached chamber music with the LaSalle, Stradivari, and American
String Quartets, the Quartetto Italiano, Laurence Lesser, and Vartan
Manoogian. After studies at Northwestern University, Dr.
Beadell-DiBartolo holds a BM in cello performance (University of Iowa),
a MM in cello performance (University of Cincinnati College -
Conservatory of Music), and a DMA (The University of Arizona).
